OVERALL COMPETITION WINNER AND CATEGORY WINNER IN LANDSCAPE TRUST PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

The Landscape Trust for the Arnside and Silverdale Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty recently held a Photography Competition to celebrate their 30th year as an Organisation.

Photographs were shortlisted for the 6 separate categories and these 60 images were printed and mounted at A4 and put on display for the weekend for a Public vote. During the weekend of this display, there were lectures and field trips leading to the judging and Competition results, which were announced in the EI Hall on Sunday afternoon.

I am delighted to be able to say that I was voted the overall winner of the competition with my Bridge over the River Bela image. This same image won an individual category as well.

I won one other category with my image of the limestone pavement at Gait Barrows, and was runner up for a third category with the Baby Woodpecker and Mother arriving image.

MACH LOOP LOW FLYING MILITARY AIRCRAFT
10th December 2014 - 0 comments
A new portfolio just added to the Latest Images section.

At last I have visited the famous triangle of valleys in the Welsh mountains near Dolgellau and Cader Idris.

Visiting in December, the direction of light throughout the day favoured two famous locations, THE BLWCH and BLWCH EXIT.

Monday to Friday last week for 7 hours a day, in -5 to -15 degrees windchill temperatures and absolutely brilliant!

4 hats/hoods, 6 top layers and 4 bottom layers and I was set to stay up there after the 300 feet climb.

The F15E's from Lakenheath, both the Madhatters and the Panthers, were the stars of the show, along with the departing USAF Hercules and the Saudi Tornado upgrade.

Oh, and now I am officially a "Looper" and I know to call the condensation on an aircraft "fluff" and "ribbons".

I met some great blokes, really helpful and friendly.

This photograph was taken last year along the waterfront at Chicago, near to Navy Pier. The aluminium canoes arranged and suspended by steel wires, were part of an open air art exhibition. I was attracted by the texture of the metalwork and the subtle effect the warm morning light was having on the otherwise cool appearance of the bare aluminium structure.

This is the first year of this Competition, inspired by and led by Charlie Waite and supported by the leading Landscape Photographers in the USA.

Charlie and 12 of the best US Landscape Photographers, including David Muench and Art Wolfe, made up the panel of judges.

I entered 12 images into 3 Categories. 7 went through to the semi finals and 3 went into the finals. 1 of these 3 was the award winner for the Urban Landscape category. I was even more thrilled to be told by Charlie that the decision on my image was unanimous.
